Baltic Sea Portal

The Portal provides current information about The Baltic Sea, the state of the Sea, the marine research activities and Protection of the Sea in Finnish, Swedish and English.

The portal is maintained by the Finnish Environment Institute, the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Ministry of Environment in Finland.

Baltic Sea Now

• On the Baltic Sea Now -pages the latest available information is collected in real time. These pages will offer the most up-to-date information as regards to the Baltic Sea waves, algae, ice and sea level.

Baltic Sea information

• Baltic Sea information contains articles about the Baltic Sea grouped by subject. The topics are: general information, hydrography, ice conditions, open sea, sea bottom, eutrophication, harmful substances and invasive species. The newest measurements and the sample data can be found in the observations archive of Helcom-monitoring and on the Algaline monitoring page. This section contains also annual and seasonal reports about the state of the Baltic Sea since 1997 and The Baltic Sea education subsites as well as the interactive images of the Baltic Sea species.

Baltic Sea protection

• This section provides information about the activities to protect the Baltic Sea both at national and international level. It also includes some tips to everyone to follow to improve the conditions in coastal waters and the whole of the Baltic Sea.  

Research

• The Research pages contain short introductions to research programmes, groups and projects of the insitutes maintaining the portal.

Current

• The Current pages contain the latest news and other current information about the Baltic Sea and the press releases on the Baltic Sea issues by the Finnish Environment Insitute, the Meterological Institute and the Ministry of Environment. 

Aranda

•  The Aranda pages contain information about the research vessel Aranda.

Baltic Sea game 

• The Baltic Sea Game tests your knowledge of the Baltic Sea.

Photogallery

• In the Photogallery the photos are grouped by subject: frontpage photos, sea and nature photos, photos of Aranda's research expeditions, other seas and polar areas.

• On the Links pages you can find a list of usefull links containing information about the Baltic Sea and marine research.
