FIMR develops Baltic Sea Portal and website

2.1.2006
FIMR has continued to develop the websites it maintains. During the autumn, a more precise ice map over the Baltic Sea has been available at the Baltic Sea Now website, which has also moved to the Baltic Sea Portal.

For several years already, a precise ice map of the entire Baltic Sea has been on the wishlist of users of the Baltic Sea Now website. The recent contract FIMR made to supply ice maps not only to the Finnish ice breakers, but also to the Swedish ones, has permitted the Institute to put them on the internet as well. This is an important additional service on the website.

The Baltic Sea Now pages have also moved from the FIMR website to the Baltic Sea Portal, where they belong in terms of their content. Now all up-to-date and basic information about the Baltic Sea can be found using one user interface, which will hopefully make the information easier to find.

A new Baltic Sea game is also under development, to be published in the Baltic Sea Portal in January 2006. The game contains various kinds of questions of several difficulty levels about the Baltic Sea. A correct answer will let the player move to the next question, whereas an incorrect one will return him to the beginning. The questions appear in a random order, so that completing the game requires both extensive knowledge about the Baltic Sea and a bit of luck as well.

FIMR continues to hope that users of its websites provide it with ideas and comments about its websites. If you have good ideas about developing our websites, or would like to express your opinion about them, please use our Feedback form.
