The Baltic Sea Portal consists of seven parts. The Algal Situation pages contain up-to-date information about algal blooms as well as background information about the collection of algal observation data. The Algal Situation pages also contain basic information about algal bloom observation. It is also possible to inform FIMR about disturbing algal blooms by submitting a form.
Baltic Sea Information pages contain illustrated and thorough articles about the Baltic Sea and its particular characteristics. They contain basic information about ice conditions in the Baltic Sea, recirculation, flora and fauna. This section also contains articles written by external contributors, such as local environmental institutes and individuals.
State of the Baltic Sea pages are collection of reports and stament of the Baltic Sea in different years. This helps to understand the Baltic Sea changes in long time scale.
Conservation pages are a collection of links about Baltic Sea protection and the national and international laws and conventions which govern it. The complete text of Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Baltic Sea (HELCOM) can be found here.
Research Participants pages present FIMR’s national and international partners involved in marine research.
Environmental Education pages contain links to pages about environmental education where FIMR has contributed, for example, links to educational material for primary and secondary schools in Finnish by BOING.
Other Seas pages are still under development.Their aim is to present FIMR research in the Arctic and Antarctic oceans.
The Baltic Sea Portal also contains a glossary, picture gallery, feedback form and FAQ as well as information about the Portal itself.
The Baltic Sea Portal includes information about the Baltic Sea contributed by external sources, such as the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and local environment institutes. Thus the Baltic Sea Portal aims to collect, as extensively as possible, all up-to-date information about the Baltic Sea in one place.
